Amazing Grace

On July 23, Friday:

It was a beautiful morning with the sea breeze from the Carribean. We enjoyed the great works of God with Sunshines and beautiful sea shore. Ironically, there are great needs in the heart of the people in this beautiful city. With the constant concern of personal safety, limited freedom, strong financial burden from a weak economy and serious corruption in the government, people of Venezuela are facing great challenge.

Nonetheless, the Word of God is speading steadily among the chinese immigrants. There are many physcial and emotional needs among the group; however, I believe spiritual need is the most imminent one. Afterall, everything will come to pass but the Word of God will endure forever. The power of the Gospel will triumph over the works of the devil among the people at Venezuela.

Today we visited Ho Yin and his family. It was not long after he settled down at Venezuela, he was robbed two times. The second robbery turns out to be a great tragedy. An inexperienced robber accidentally fire his shotgun (散彈槍) and the debris injured his eyes. Since then he became a blinded man.

Pastor Ricky hold his hand and encouraged him not to lose heart and continue to trust in God. Ricky also suggested more serving opportunity for Ho Yin, such as teaching Spanish. We also noticed some infection in his eyes, and we suggested him to have a check up in the hosipital.

Ho Yin shared with us his interest in worshipping God with songs. His favorite song was "Amazing Grace." It was a touching moment that we sang the song together. Here are the lyrics:

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Pastor Ricky also taught Ho Yin one of his favorite song as a gift. It was a simple song about the love of Jesus. We focused on the chorus because it is easier to remember: "Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes Jesus loves me for the bible tells me so."

"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us." 1 John 4:10-12
